These section answers the common question
for using the EzTest debug tools products. When you have any question about operating and
using the EzTest products, please refer this section firstly. If the problem still to
occur please mail your question to
EzTest Research Room.
Protector series
Q1: What is protector product?
- EzTest Protector is socket saver for your expensive device
during testing. After thousand insertion for testing, the golden finger will be
destroyed, when you used the EzTest Protector during testing, you just only change the low
cost protector after thousand insertion testing.
Q2: How to select a good
protector product?
- Reliability and life cycles are most important consideration
for purchase the protector products.
Q3: What is Hot swap extender
products?
- The hot swap extender products allow user exchange the
interface card without power off the system power. It can save the times for system
booting and load.
- Hot swap extender card is used for QC test, R&D and
repair.

Step by Step Card
Q1: How to use the step card ?
- Record --- Record the good motherboard's address and data
information for each step firstly.
(record to 1st Far JMP instruction execution). Take the
fault one, and do the same process as above.
- Compare -- Compare the good and fault motherboard execution
result to know the difference.
- Analysis -- Using above difference to analysis the problem
base on the PC hardware architecture.
Q2: Why does the step card can
find the address and data bus path fault problem?
- Step card can halt or latch address/data step by step for
CPU execution.
- User record the execution result for each step. Then compare
to the good one to find the bug.
Q3: What's technical
background
for using the step card?
- Engineer must know PC motherboard architecture.
- Control and transfer flow for Instruction fetch and I/O read
write.
- Data bus flow and conversion for CPU local bus, PCI bus and
BIOS.
- Hex to Binary convector, (assist to calculate the fault bit#)
Q4: What is EzTest debug BIOS?
- The EzTest debug BIOS is designed for motherboard
troubleshooting for using the JET-1046 PCI step card. It is able to help user to find a bug
more quickly.

POST Card series
Q1: What is POST code? What's
function for POST card.
- The system BIOS will the Power-On Self-Test
function before system boot. And it will put a code to POST port before its respective
routine is performed.
- The function of POST is latch this POST code and
display it to let user know the system BIOS executes witch function during power on.
Q2: What's mean for POST code is
"00" or "FF" when system power on? (and the some POST code list can't
find this code)
- When system is full dead, the system can't execute
any instruction from BIOS, so it can't write any code into POST port. The POST card
display the power default value ,it depend on bus signal (in general is 00 or FF, in some
M/B, it will show other different value)
- If the POST still at one fixed value after system
power on, it mean system is dead.
Q3: How to use the POST card?
- Turn off the system power, then insert the POST
card into its same type bus slot (ISA type to ISA Bus slot, and PCI type to PCI Bus slot)
- Power on the system again
- If the POST stop at one fixed value after system
power on, it mean the BIOS can't pass this POST function. Look up the POST code list to
know the rough error for it. And trouble-shooting for this message instruction.
Q4: How to select POST card
products?
- For the test Dept. of PC motherboard maker, we
suggest the simple version POST card. (JET-1048 for desktop user, and JET-1054 for
notebook user.)
- Power on the system again
- If you are a RMA, repair or R&D engineer, we
strongly suggest to adopt the JET-1050 PCI Test card.
- If you are a on-site service engineer or system
assembly, we suggest to use the JET-1049 PCI Checker card. (Except POST code function, this
card offer PCI clock, temperature and all power source of PCI readout function)
